By the time this newsletter is published, eight Emmaus walks will have been completed in 2023. Thank you to Bunk Harpole and Lynn McCafferty, Lay Directors in September, for their dedication and willingness to serve the pilgrims on Walk #361 and Walk #362.
Please continue to pray for the teams and pilgrims on the final two walks of 2023. Walk #363, October 5-8, will be a men’s walk led by Brandon Odom. Walk #364, October 12-15, will be a ladies’ walk led by Cristen Barnard. We will have the Gathering for these walks on October 19th along with our Annual Meeting.
I am happy to report that our caretaker Scott Coleman has recovered from his accident and has resumed his work responsibilities. I want to thank the individuals and communities who worked at the camp in his place so that our scheduled walks could take place. I especially want to thank Charlene and Blair Coleman for taking on many extra tasks.
Our Lay Director Training, Committee Coordinator Training, Clergy Training, and Music Workshop for 2024 Music Leaders will be held at the Christian Camp on Friday, October 27, and Saturday October 28. It will be an informative weekend designed to equip next year’s leadership for a busy 2024. Our newly elected Board members—Amanda Clark, Bill Grace, Les Miles, Rosemary Knox, Rev. Michael Lindsay, and new Community Spiritual Director Matt Moehring—will begin their terms at this meeting.
On a bittersweet note, it has been my pleasure and honor to serve this year as Chairman of the Board. It has been a blessing and privilege to work with Board members who have true servant hearts. Please thank Ginger Busbea, Tammy Sutton, Peggy Yarbrough, and Rev. Mike Dowd for their dedicated service as they complete their three-year terms. At the same time, I want to thank Rev. Andy Pearson for his leadership the last two years as Community Spiritual Director. Again, I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the Lord through Emmaus.
De Colores,
Doug King
