March 2023 Newsletter

Spring is here, and all around us we see the miracles and beauty of new life.  What a great time to start our 2023 Emmaus walks, and the first two walks were memorable.  As always God placed the pilgrims and the teams where He wanted them on each one, and His blessings poured out on all those participating.  Candlelight crowds were exceptional on both weekends.

In the aftermath of the terrible destruction from the tornado touchdowns, we now have so many opportunities to be the Body of Christ.  When the needs are this numerous and varied, God can surely use us in many different ways to be His hands and feet.  No matter what our situation or location, we can all pray for the physical and emotional needs our brothers and sisters are facing.  Only God can give them the peace and strength to survive such devastating losses.

I want to remind you again about the importance of sponsoring pilgrims.  COVID not only stopped our walks at one time but also discouraged people from sending in applications.  Our men’s walks are filling up faster than our women’s walks, and there are back-to-back ladies’ walks in June so please contact those that the Lord may be leading you to sponsor.  This could be the perfect time that God wants them to go.

As a good sponsor, be sure to tell them to bring a little money in case they want to buy a book or t-shirt.  We all want our pilgrims to feel comfortable and enjoy every minute they are on the campground.  On Thursday night when they are facing the unknown in silence, so many are truly nervous and ready to leave!  Many times the “fun” stories they have been told before they get to the camp magnify their anxieties and even keep others from coming altogether.  Please don’t tell them about no food, hikes, baptisms, or anything else that will distract them from why God wants them there.

Don’t forget that Lesa Moore is in charge of all Emmaus Pilgrim Applications.  She has a huge job processing the applications, assigning them to their walks, and coping with all our requests.  Please notify her of any changes in your pilgrim’s status.  She is the only one who knows all the extenuating circumstances that affect replacing someone who can’t attend a walk with the applicant who is next in line.

Remember to pray for all our upcoming walks, teams, and meetings but especially the ones in April:

Walk #357, John Jackson, April 13-16

Walk #358, Jammie Stuart, April 20-23.
