Happy summertime to all!
Please read this note from Rob Burnham, who is helping us put an emphasis on sponsorship:
“Sponsorship is the act of revisiting The Walk to Emmaus experience with the person whom God has laid on your heart. It is one of the most important aspects of The Walk to Emmaus.
Sponsorship requires extensive prayer, diligent thought, and careful planning and follow-through.”
Our community has grown to include thousands of people who have encountered Jesus during their special time with Him on their Walk to Emmaus. But think about it…not one of us would be experiencing our Fourth Day had someone not cared enough to sponsor us.
Sponsorship is the lifeblood of Emmaus. Our mission of building up the body of Christ by training and equipping local church leaders would not be possible without prayerfully and diligently recruiting Pilgrims who carry on that mission. When we sponsor a pilgrim, we are planting a seed that ensures that the future of the Lord’s plan for The North Mississippi Walk to Emmaus is vibrant and strong.
As wise sponsors, we have a responsibility to follow the scriptural principles of listening to God through prayer and then calling people by name to attend The Walk to Emmaus.
The Upper Room Handbook on Emmaus lists three aspects of good sponsorship:
It is “the first act of agape” before a Walk ever begins.
It undergirds the whole weekend “with sacrificial love on behalf of each Pilgrim”
It is the foundation for a healthy, effective Emmaus movement, which results in the renewal of the church.
Wise sponsorship is careful, intentional, prayerful, and purposeful because it results from God’s leading.
If you are being led to wise sponsorship, let me challenge you to pray diligently about who God would have you to sponsor. Christ is counting on many of us to plant seeds through wise sponsorship that will ensure a strong and vibrant future for The North Mississippi Walk to Emmaus Community.

PS - Our website will soon have more details on the mechanics of sponsorship. In the mean time, if you have questions, contact your sponsor or others you trust to direct you.
Also, please remember to pray for Walk 327, led by Brett Olson, as it begins on July 5th, and for Walk 328, led by Sara Pollan, which begins on July 12th. Thank for your continued support of this ministry.
God bless you all,
Decolores.
