Many say that the Emmaus Camp is holy ground, a place where miracles happen. Theologian Frederick Buechner said, “It is not the objective proof of God’s existence that we want but the experience of God’s presence. That is the miracle we are really after...” I daresay we have all experienced the sweetness of God’s presence on this holy ground. We’ve seen lives transformed by the power of God, burdens left at the foot of the cross, and hope restored to hopeless hearts.
Augustine, who played a major role in bringing Christianity to the forefront in the pagan Roman Empire, said, “I never have any difficulty believing in miracles, since I experienced the miracle of a change in my own heart.” Jeremiah 32:27 says, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me?” And the answer is a resounding “Nothing, Lord, absolutely nothing, is too hard for You!” What an awesome life-changing God we serve!
What a joy it has been to see God work so many miracles at Emmaus! However, there are still lots of people who need a touch from God, who need to experience the miracle of His revealed Presence, but someone has to care enough to sponsor that person and bring them. Would you pray about whom the Lord would have you sponsor this year? Is there a person who has come across your path who has lost hope, who needs refreshing, who needs lots of tender love and care? That person might be the very person God intends for you to sponsor. Don’t fear how the person will respond to the experience of Emmaus. Place any fears in God’s hands and trust Him with the results.
Please pray for the Walks coming up in July: Walk #317, July 6-9, Lay Director, Cliff Hudson and Walk # 318, July 13-16, Lay Director, Alice Foster. Pray that each pilgrim will experience the presence of the Living God and be transformed by Him during these walks. Pray also for the team, stamina, discernment, and a spirit of unity, cooperation and love. How blessed we are to have the opportunity to be His hands and feet on this earth. I know of no greater joy.
"Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which Christ's compassion for the world is to look out; yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good; and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now." ~Saint Teresa of Avila
