August, 2024
Greetings, Emmaus family!
Fall is finally heading our way, and I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown by!
We only have four walks left for this year and they are as follows:
Ginny Ables #371 Sept. 5th-8th
Jennifer Williams #372 Sept.12th-15th
Stuart MacKenzie #373 Oct. 3rd-6th
Phoebe Holland #374 Oct. 10th-13th
Let’s all be in prayer for the sponsors, pilgrims and the teams as they prepare to show the love of Christ to everyone involved in these last four walks.
We are very fortunate to have Scott and Charlene Coleman as our Camp superintendents and many of us have had the blessing of serving alongside both of them in our Emmaus ministry. Let me share a little background on them in case you didn’t know them already: Scott’s background includes property management where he has multiple rental properties. He is a certified plumber, electrician and a carpenter by trade. Along with his degree in business management, he had served as battalion commander over the 120th support Battalion which had an MP platoon, an engineering platoon, and a logistics platoon. Charlene has over 18 years of banking and financial experience which makes them both a well-rounded team to take care of our Camp and its operations.
Our Camp is a fairly large campus that has to house up to 100 people on many Walk weekends. Scott and Charlene have prudently been making improvements and repairs slowly in order to be good stewards of our Camp and Emmaus resources. They are currently working on a few grants that could assist us with HVAC improvements and working with our propane provider to make improvements to our water heaters. Scott is also looking into grants from 84 Lumber for building and maintenance materials.
Scott and Charlene primarily need our communities to help raise funds for all issues of the Camp and to build a capital improvement account that could be drawn on to advance our overall maintenance projects. They also need “sweat equity” help from the Emmaus and Chrysalis communities at the Camp whenever the need arises. When you visit the Camp, please share an Emmaus hug with these two servant hearted believers and keep the Colemans in your prayers as they make our Camp our Emmaus home.
The new board members that were elected to serve beginning in 2025 are as follows:
Carol Deweese, Angela Fratesi, Tommy Reed, Chris Miller and James Lawson. A big thank you to these folks for their willingness to serve on the board. Please be in prayer for them as they prepare to serve our Emmaus community.
The board is in the process of discussing fee increases that will go into effect starting in 2025. We will determine the increases at our next board meeting in September. The board intends to emphasize contributions to offset the fee increases going forward. If you would like to help us with contributions, please send them to Les Miles, 444A Hwy 12 West, Starkville, MS 39759.
DeColores,
Mitch Griffin
