August 2023 Newsletter

God has provided us with a blessed Emmaus year so far.  Many have served tirelessly and showed the love of Christ as we have welcomed new brothers and sisters into our community.  As we approach the last of the 4 walk weekends, please pray for full walks and teams.  The next walks are Men’s Walk #361, September 7-10, with LD Bunk Harpole and Ladies’ Walk #362, September 14-17 with LD Lynn McCafferty. The final walks will be in October with LDs Brandon Odom and Cristen Barnard.  As the teams prepare for their weekends, please pray earnestly for them and the pilgrims they will be serving. I would like to be sure that everyone knows that 2 entities are involved in all Emmaus walks.  The Christian Camp of North MS is in charge of the facilities, buildings, and grounds, and they employ Scott Coleman as Caretaker.  To update Scott’s recovery after his accident, he is steadily improving and was able to get back on the tractor recently.

Answered prayers! The North MS Emmaus Community carries on the day-to-day activities for all Emmaus walks, and they employ Charlene Coleman. As far as our financial status, there has been a tremendous increase in all operating expenses, especially food.  We are so thankful for the donations we have received since our last letter but still need more as we try to keep from having to increase pilgrims’ fees.

Lay Directors are already beginning the initial process of assembling their teams.  They will have their weekend training session on October 27 & 28.  Please add Hank Harrington, Tina Bethay, Tommy Reed, Melanie Sanders, Mike Jones, Lisa Sledge, Ginny Ables, Jennifer Williams, Stuart MacKenzie, and Phoebe Holland to your prayers.  Also, remember LDs Bubba Deloach and Christy Sullivan as their walks are scheduled for March, 2025. Finally, please check to make sure that we have your current contact information. If you are not receiving community emails or possibly not receiving invitations to serve on future teams, we may have the wrong information or no information in our system if you have not submitted a new application.  Peggy Yarbrough or any Board Member will be happy to help you check.
