September 2018 Newsletter

II Thessalonians 2:13

What a wonderful Emmaus year God has provided for us so far! So many of you have poured your heart and faith into this ministry in order to welcome more brothers and sisters into our community. As we approach the last four Walk weekends, we are blessed to have the opportunity to share again the wonderful experiences that Emmaus brings to all of us. The next Walk is ladies Walk 329, September 6-9, led by Rhonda Landrum, followed by another ladies Walk 330, September 13-16, led by Jennifer Zirlott. As the teams prepare for their weekends, please pray earnestly for them, and the pilgrims they will be serving.

We are excited to welcome the new class of Directors to our Board. They will officially begin their 3 years of service to North Mississippi Emmaus starting in January, 2019. The Board Class of 2021 are, Adam Gordon, (Clergy), Patty Bailey, Jan Miller, Judy Smith, and Bill Taylor. Their servant’s hearts will provide us with great leadership over the next three years, and we are confident that their efforts, along with the other Board members will help us share and grow our community through God’s grace.

We are so thankful that we have had many faithful clergy serve along with our teams on each Walk. We should remember to be thankful as well for their local congregations that have been willing to share their minister leadership with us so many times. We would love to see our clergy pool expand in numbers so that we don’t wear out the clergy who have been asked to serve so much. If your local church would be willing to share their clergy leadership who have attended an Emmaus Walk, please consider approaching them to possibly serve. Billy Ray Stonestreet, our Community Spiritual Director, can help you look into both the qualifications and training that is needed in order to serve on an Emmaus team. If your minister has not attended an Emmaus Walk, why not approach them about letting you share the gift of Emmaus with them.

Please continue to keep sponsorship as a priority. Your efforts so far have allowed us to fill, or nearly fill each Walk this year. God provides us with 36 slots for pilgrims each Walk, and we always want to have each position filled to share the Emmaus experience. If you are considering sponsoring someone, the Christian Camp has developed a special diet policy that will help us make sure that we can take care of significant diet issues. Rick and Bev Shepherd can help you determine what the camp can do for you as a team member, or any pilgrim you may be considering to sponsor.

Our 2019 Lay Directors are already beginning the initial process of assembling their teams, and in late October, they will have their weekend training session. Please add, Chris Crowson, Angela Burrell, Robert Diamond, Naomi Fryery, Les Miles, Sonja Chrestman, Anna Puckett, Sheri Burrell, Gary Dedeaux, and Kellye James to your prayer lists as they begin their Walk journeys in 2019. Also remember Jimmy Gant and Cindy Baird as their Lay Director Walks are scheduled for March, 2020.

Finally, please check to make sure that we have your current contact information. If you or other Emmaus members are not receiving community emails or possibly not receiving invitations to serve on future teams, it could be that we have the wrong information in our system. You can text any Board Member and they will be happy to help you check. Your Board is discussing the appointment of a central communication director to help manage all of our efforts to stay in touch with you.

Blessing to all of you, Carpe Diem, and DeColores,

Bill West, Chairman.
